Katelyn and Wes first met in middle school band class, where fate assigned them both to the drums. Wes specifically remembers thinking, "This Katelyn girl isn't bad looking for a fellow drummer!" This encounter began a multi-year journey that led them to where their relationship is today.

As Wes ventured into high school, with Katelyn following suit a couple of years later, their shared experiences in band class provided the background music to their evolving relationship. It was during Wes's junior year that he invited Katelyn to prom. This night would be remembered not just for the dance, but also for Wes's unintentional comedic moment. He mistakenly arrived at the neighbor's door, a moment Katelyn observed through the window (and still loves to bring up!).

Then came college. Wes attended SIUC while Katelyn attended Mizzou. Some of their most memorable moments together include singing bad karaoke, late-night trips to Denny's, and Katelyn and Kelly Suman's visit to Carbondale. During this visit, Katelyn made a point to mention that "the Wes guy was cool" (shout out to Kelly!).

Post-college, Wes's career path led him to Kansas City following a promising job opportunity. Katelyn, still navigating her college years, sought internships in the same city. It wasn't long before she too made her way to Kansas City, settling into an apartment just blocks from Wes. Their friendship continued to flourish, further enriched by Haley Simpson's visit that summer. This visit sparked countless memorable nights as they explored the new and exciting city together (shout out to Haley!). During this time, Katelyn and Wes's friendship blossomed into a romantic one.

In the heart of Kansas City, Katelyn and Wes's relationship continued to deepen. Their shared enthusiasm for the Kansas City Chiefs' ascent and numerous road trips across the country further fortified their connection. The addition of their dog, Harry, to their family only strengthened their bond even more (shout out to Harry!).

The crescendo of their relationship was reached in Acadia National Park, Maine, against the backdrop of a breathtaking sunset. It was there that Wes, moved by the beauty of the scene and their shared journey, proposed to Katelyn.
